"The voices and attacks mean I'm going crazy and there's something psychiatrically wrong with me, not spiritually."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe this isn't even spiritual—maybe I'm just mentally ill. Maybe I need medication, not prayer. Everyone will think I'm making excuses if I call this 'spiritual warfare' when it's probably just my broken brain.
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."
-- 2 Corinthians 10:4-5Source: Western rationalism that denies the spiritual realm and pathologizes everything, plus medical system that medicates spiritual battles.
The symptoms mirror mental illness descriptions, and she's been taught to trust science over spiritual realities. Calling it 'demonic' feels dramatic and delusional, while calling it 'anxiety' or 'intrusive thoughts' feels acceptable and treatable.
Saul was tormented by a distressing spirit from the Lord after the Spirit departed—clearly spiritual, not just mental. The remedy? David's worship. When David played, the spirit left and Saul was refreshed. Spiritual problem, spiritual solution—immediate relief.
I REFUSE the lie that this is only mental illness with no spiritual component. IT IS WRITTEN: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5—I have spiritual weapons to pull down strongholds and take thoughts captive. I can seek help AND fight spiritually. IT IS WRITTEN: James 4:7—when I resist the devil, he MUST flee. I am not crazy—I am under attack, which proves I'm dangerous to darkness. I am under the BARAK blessing—protected by covenant. My mind belongs to Jesus and I take authority over every lying voice.
The Father isn't frustrated that you can't tell the difference between spiritual and mental—He's covering you with His peace that surpasses understanding, reminding you that whether it's chemical or demonic, HE is bigger. You don't have to figure it out perfectly to be loved perfectly.
