"The spiritual darkness is increasing and I'm powerless to stop it."
How it sounds in your head: You watch the culture deteriorate, see your kids embrace worldviews you never imagined, witness evil normalized. It feels like darkness is advancing and the church is retreating. As an individual man in your fifties, what can you possibly do against the tidal wave of spiritual darkness?
"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."
-- Matthew 16:18Victim mentality that makes you reactor instead of enforcer of Christ's victory, forgetting that gates of hell cannot prevail against the church.
The cultural shift IS real and IS accelerating. Things you never thought you'd see are now mainstream. The darkness DOES seem to be increasing and your sphere of influence feels microscopic against global trends.
Elisha's servant saw the massive enemy army surrounding them and panicked—'We're outnumbered, we're finished!' Elisha prayed God would open his eyes and suddenly he saw the MOUNTAIN FULL OF HORSES AND CHARIOTS OF FIRE surrounding the enemy. The visible darkness was nothing compared to the invisible heavenly army.
I REFUSE the lie that darkness is increasing and I'm powerless. IT IS WRITTEN that the gates of hell shall NOT prevail against the church. I am not on defense—I am on OFFENSE. Darkness has no power over light, and the LIGHT OF THE WORLD lives in me. IT IS WRITTEN that greater is He in me than he in the world. I am not watching darkness advance—I am watching the Kingdom of God advance and the enemy retreat. The spiritual realm is MORE real than what I see, and heaven's armies outnumber hell's.
The Father isn't wringing His hands over cultural darkness—He's seated on the throne laughing at the schemes of nations. He's inviting you to see what Elisha's servant saw: that the darkness you fear is SURROUNDED by the light of His overwhelming heavenly army.
