"The inheritance fight destroyed our family—I should have just walked away from it all."
How it sounds in your head: Siblings who don't speak anymore. Lawyers. Contested wills. Years of bitterness over who got what. You wonder if the money was worth the relationships. Maybe you should have just surrendered everything to keep peace.
"And He said, 'Let Me go, for the day breaks.' But he said, 'I will not let You go unless You bless me!'"
-- Genesis 32:26Enemy strategy to make you regret contending for blessing by highlighting relational cost—painting rightful inheritance as selfish.
The family IS divided. Holidays ARE awkward or non-existent. The inheritance DID cost relationships. You look at the money and wonder if it was worth the price of connection.
Jacob wrestled with God all night, hip knocked out of joint, refusing to let go until he received blessing. He left limping but with new name (Israel) and confirmation of inheritance—contending for blessing is biblical even when it costs comfort.
I REFUSE the lie that I should have walked away from rightful inheritance to keep peace. IT IS WRITTEN that Jacob wrestled all night and said, 'I will not let You go unless You bless me.' Contending for blessing is BIBLICAL. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 12:1 to lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares. Sometimes that includes toxic family dynamics that want you to sacrifice your blessing for their comfort. I am not responsible for others' response to my obedience. The BARAK blessing is MINE by covenant. I receive without apology.
The Father isn't disappointed that you contended for blessing—He's PROUD. He's the One who GAVE you the inheritance and the courage to receive it. He's not asking you to sacrifice what He provided to manage others' discomfort with His generosity toward you.
