"The devil has stolen my joy and I can't get it back no matter what I do."
How it sounds in your head: I used to feel alive but now everything feels heavy and gray. I've tried worship, gratitude journals, serving others, but the joy doesn't return. Maybe the enemy has a grip on my emotions.
"Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
-- Nehemiah 8:10Religious teaching that joy is something you manufacture through spiritual disciplines instead of receive as gift.
Depression feels like a spiritual oppression you can't shake despite trying all the right Christian practices. Other people seem joyful, making you feel uniquely under attack.
Naomi was so devastated she changed her name to Mara (bitter), having lost her husband and both sons in a foreign land. God brought Ruth into her life, and suddenly Naomi was holding her grandson Obed (King David's grandfather) - from bitter to blessed in one generation.
I REFUSE the lie that the enemy has stolen my joy. IT IS WRITTEN that the joy of the LORD is my strength - His joy living in me, not emotion I manufacture. The oil of joy is my portion as the righteousness of God in Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that in His presence is fullness of joy. I am NEVER separated from His presence, so joy is always available. The BARAK blessing means I am blessed coming and going, covered even in dark seasons. Joy is my inheritance NOW.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to feel joyful before He runs to you - He's running toward you carrying His own joy as a gift. He sees you crowned with joy, not manufacturing it.
