"If I was stronger spiritually, the enemy wouldn't attack so much."
How it sounds in your head: I see other Christian guys who seem to have it together—they're not struggling like I am. Maybe if I prayed more, read my Bible more, went to youth group more consistently, the attacks would decrease. My weakness invites attack.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Source: performance-based religion that teaches spiritual strength comes from disciplines rather than from abiding in Christ's finished work.
He compares himself to others who seem to have easier battles and assumes their secret is greater discipline. His intensity of struggle feels like proof of spiritual deficiency that invites enemy exploitation.
Angel called Gideon 'mighty man of valor' while he was HIDING in fear. God reduced his army from 32,000 to 300—made him WEAKER—then gave him total victory. God's power showed up in weakness, not strength.
I REFUSE the lie that my weakness invites attack. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that God's strength is made PERFECT in my weakness. I am not attacked because I'm failing—I'm attacked because I'm DANGEROUS to the kingdom of darkness. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 Peter 5:8 that the enemy prowls seeking whom he may devour—he targets THREATS, not failures. My battles don't prove I'm weak—they prove I'm worth the enemy's ammunition. I don't need to be stronger—I need to ABIDE in the Vine who is my strength. My power is in CONNECTION, not PERFORMANCE.
Your Father sees you feeling weak and inadequate, and He's smiling because He LOVES displaying His strength through weak vessels. He's not waiting for you to get stronger—He's inviting you to rest in your weakness so His power can be perfected in you without competition from your effort.
