"The church only wants my time and money; I'm being used."
How it sounds in your head: Every announcement is a volunteer ask or a donation plea. They don't care about ME, they care about filling slots and budgets. I'm a number, a resource, not a person. Once I started saying no, they stopped checking on me.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Source: Legitimate experience of being leveraged by church systems more concerned with programs than people, mixed with enemy's lie that ALL community is transactional.
He volunteered until burnout and nobody noticed when he stopped. Giving appeals felt manipulative. Leaders who were friendly when he served disappeared when he stepped back. The pain is real—he WAS used—and the enemy generalizes that wound to all spiritual community.
The wounded man was passed by religious leaders (priest and Levite) who had 'more important' things to do. The Samaritan stopped, poured in oil and wine, bandaged wounds, carried him to safety, paid for his care, and promised to cover ANY additional costs—pure GIVING with no agenda.
I REFUSE the lie that all church community is transactional. IT IS WRITTEN that God's will is that I PROSPER in all things and be in health. Yes, some churches use people like resources, but that's broken religion, not the Father's heart. The Good Samaritan didn't help the wounded man to get something FROM him—he poured out with no agenda, no strings, pure generosity. IT IS WRITTEN in Acts 20:35 that 'it is more blessed to give than to receive'—and true fathers GIVE, they don't just TAKE. I will find a family that invests in ME, calls out my destiny, and celebrates my flourishing. I am the BARAK blessed, a son not a slot-filler, treasured not tolerated. God's design is mutual edification, not one-sided extraction.
The Father whispers, 'That church used you, and I saw every ounce of your exhaustion. But I'm not like them. I came to GIVE you life abundantly, not drain you for My agenda. I have a family that will pour INTO you, see you, value you—not for what you DO but for who you ARE.' He's already picked the ones who will champion you, mentor you, and celebrate you without asking for anything in return.
