"The church just wants my money, this is manipulation"
How it sounds in your head: Every service ends with a pitch. The pastor drives a nice car while I'm struggling. This feels like a guilt trip, like they're using God to fund their lifestyle. How do I know this is real and not just religious fundraising?
"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."
-- 2 Corinthians 9:7Source: Trauma from religious abuse and legitimate church scandals creating distrust of all teaching on giving
She's seen scandals, heard stories, maybe experienced manipulation firsthand. The pain is real, the distrust is earned. Some leaders HAVE abused this, and her discernment is valid even if misdirected.
These believers were in 'deep poverty' and 'great trial of affliction,' yet BEGGED for the privilege of giving beyond their ability. Nobody manipulated them—they understood grace and gave from JOY, and Paul celebrated their freedom, not their amount.
I REFUSE the lie that all teaching on giving is manipulation. IT IS WRITTEN that I give as I purpose in my HEART, cheerfully, not under compulsion. My giving is worship to the Father, not funding for man's agenda. Even if leaders fail, God does NOT. The BARAK blessing is MINE through covenant, and no human corruption can steal what Jesus bought with blood. IT IS WRITTEN that God loves a cheerful giver—I am free to give in joy or not give in peace, because I am under GRACE, not religious control. My generosity flows from relationship with a Father who gave His Son, not fear of man's opinion.
The Father isn't running a religious pyramid scheme—He's inviting you into the joy of generosity that mirrors His own heart. Where leaders have wounded you, He's the Good Shepherd binding up those wounds while STILL offering you access to covenant blessing that doesn't depend on their integrity.
