"Giving when I'm in debt is financially irresponsible and God wants me to be wise."
How it sounds in your head: You've got $3,000 in credit card debt and $12,000 in student loans already. Dave Ramsey says to stop all giving until you're debt-free. That's basic stewardship. God gave you a brain to use, and giving when you're underwater is just stupid, not spiritual.
"Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, 'Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.'"
-- 2 Kings 4:7Source: World's wisdom that trusts in financial systems more than covenant promises, making debt the master instead of God.
Secular financial advice universally says pay off debt before anything else, and this sounds like responsible adulting. Giving while owing money appears mathematically foolish and financially immature.
She had massive debt with creditors about to enslave her children—impossible situation. She gave her last jar of oil in obedience, and God multiplied it supernaturally until ALL debt was paid and she had surplus remaining, all in one afternoon.
I REFUSE the lie that debt disqualifies me from giving or that worldly wisdom trumps covenant promises. IT IS WRITTEN that the widow in debt received supernatural multiplication that paid everything with surplus. I am not under the curse of debt—Christ redeemed me from the curse. IT IS WRITTEN that the borrower is servant to the lender, but I am being set FREE because I honor God first, not my creditors first. The BARAK blessing includes 'you will lend to many nations and borrow from none.' I am Abraham's seed, and debt cancellation is my covenant inheritance. I give, and heaven responds with multiplication.
The Father isn't waiting for you to be debt-free to bless you—He's running toward you with the oil that never stops pouring, the multiplication that cancels what you owe and fills your storehouses. He sees your chains and He's bringing the key, not a budget worksheet.
