"The church is just another institution trying to control people through guilt and rules."
How it sounds in your head: Don't do this, don't watch that, don't drink, don't date that person. It's a list of rules designed to keep you in line and feeling guilty. They use shame as a control mechanism. I'm not signing up for spiritual dictatorship.
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."
-- Galatians 5:1Source: Experience with legalistic church culture that emphasized rules over relationship, making church feel like prison instead of family.
He has personally felt the weight of religious rules presented as God's requirements, with guilt as the enforcement mechanism. The focus on external behavior over internal transformation made faith feel like bondage, not freedom.
The Galatians started in the Spirit through simple faith but got bewitched by teachers adding rules and requirements. Paul was ASTONISHED they'd trade freedom for bondage—he called them foolish for thinking they had to finish by human effort what started by the Spirit.
I REFUSE the lie that church is about control through rules. IT IS WRITTEN to stand fast in the LIBERTY Christ purchased for me and reject the yoke of bondage. I am not under law but under GRACE—not controlled by guilt but compelled by love. True church is FAMILY, not prison; FREEDOM, not bondage. IT IS WRITTEN that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is LIBERTY. I receive the BARAK blessing of covenant relationship, not religious performance. I am not a slave to rules; I am a son experiencing freedom.
The Father is saying, 'I didn't send My Son to die so you could have a new set of rules—I sent Him so you could have a RELATIONSHIP. Any church that offers you law instead of grace is selling you back into the slavery He bought you OUT of. Come experience freedom, not fear. Come HOME to love, not control.'
