"Taking medication for mental health means I don't trust God to heal me"
How it sounds in your head: I've heard people say medication is the world's way and faith is God's way. If I take antidepressants, am I giving up on God? Does it mean I don't believe He can heal me? Maybe I'm taking the easy way out instead of standing in faith.
"Jesus answered and said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.'"
-- Luke 5:31Religious spirit creating false dichotomy between medicine and faith, making brain chemistry adjustment equal to unbelief instead of Jesus being present IN medical help as gift from Father.
She's heard testimonies of people who 'trusted God instead of medication' and got healed. Taking a pill feels like admitting defeat or lack of faith. The 'just pray about it' crowd makes her feel weak for considering chemical help for a chemical imbalance.
Timothy had frequent stomach problems and illnesses. Paul didn't tell him to have more faith or rebuke a spirit - he told him to use 'a little wine' for medical purposes. Paul prescribed MEDICINE for a ministry leader without questioning his faith.
I REFUSE the lie that medication cancels faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus said the sick NEED a physician - He never shamed medical help. My brain is an ORGAN that can need support, just like any other body part. God INVENTED medicine. IT IS WRITTEN that Luke was a beloved physician and Paul prescribed medicine to Timothy. Taking medication is WISDOM, not weakness. The BARAK blessing over me includes EVERY good gift from Father, including medical advances. I am NOT less spiritual for treating a chemical imbalance. I am WISE, LOVED, and FREE to receive help from every source Father provides.
Father isn't disappointed that you need medication - He MADE the ingredients, inspired the scientists, and is present IN the treatment. He's not waiting for you to white-knuckle it through with prayer alone. He's giving you every tool with love.
