"Taking a break from ministry means I'm not serious about God."
How it sounds in your head: The really committed girls at church never take breaks. They're at every event, every prayer meeting, every service opportunity. If you step back, people will think you're lukewarm or prioritizing yourself over God. Real dedication means constant availability.
"And He said to them, 'Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.' For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat."
-- Mark 6:31Religious performance—equating relentless activity with spiritual maturity.
You've been taught that dying to self means saying yes to everything. Rest feels selfish. You've heard sermons about 'going hard for God' and seen people praised for never missing church. Boundaries feel like lack of commitment.
Multitudes came to Jesus to be healed and hear Him teach, and Luke 5:16 says 'He Himself often WITHDREW into the wilderness and PRAYED.' Jesus regularly LEFT crowds who needed Him to rest and connect with the Father. If Jesus did it, it's not selfish—it's wise.
I REFUSE the lie that rest equals lack of commitment. IT IS WRITTEN that JESUS told His disciples to come aside and rest—not as weakness but as WISDOM. If Jesus withdrew from crowds who needed Him, I can step back without guilt. IT IS WRITTEN 'Come to Me and I will give you rest.' Rest is Jesus' INVITATION, not my failure. I am under the BARAK blessing, blessed COMING IN and GOING OUT. My Father isn't measuring my love by my exhaustion. I receive rest as obedience, not rebellion. I am a branch—my job is CONNECTION, and sometimes that means disconnecting from ministry to reconnect with Him.
Your Father isn't comparing you to the girls who never stop. He's the One who COMMANDED rest for His disciples in the middle of ministry. He's running toward you with the same invitation Jesus gave them: 'Come aside and rest.' Not because you've earned it. Because He loves you.
