"Suffering through this chronic pain makes me more like Christ who suffered."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus suffered. Paul suffered. The disciples suffered. Maybe your daily pain—the migraines, the fibromyalgia, the constant ache—is your participation in the fellowship of His sufferings. Maybe this is how you're being conformed to His image.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5Religion conflates redemptive suffering (Christ's alone) with random suffering, making disease a spiritual achievement instead of an enemy.
You've heard sermons about 'sharing in His sufferings' and it makes your pain feel meaningful instead of meaningless. It gives you spiritual status in a culture that glorifies martyrdom.
She was lying in bed with a high fever, unable to serve or function. Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her IMMEDIATELY, and she got up and served them—instant healing with instant restoration of purpose.
I REFUSE the lie that chronic pain makes me more like Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I WAS healed—past tense, accomplished fact. Jesus suffered so I could receive healing, not so I would repeat His suffering. His work is finished; my participation is receiving, not enduring. I am conformed to His image by the Spirit, not by disease. IT IS WRITTEN that He took my infirmities and bore my sicknesses. I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK blessing where health is covenant right. I receive instant relief as Peter's mother-in-law did.
The Father isn't making you suffer to look like Jesus—He's already given you the righteousness of Christ as a free gift while you were still a sinner. He's running toward you with healing, not asking you to participate in redemptive suffering that was already finished.
