"Something is spiritually wrong with me because I can't seem to rest in God's peace."
How it sounds in your head: Other Christians talk about resting in God but I can't seem to do it. Maybe my faith is too weak or I don't know how to trust Him right. There must be something blocking me spiritually.
"For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: 'So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest,' although the works were finished from the foundation of the world."
-- Hebrews 4:3Religious performance lie making rest a spiritual achievement instead of covenant position - rest becomes another thing to fail at.
Church language about 'entering His rest' sounds like a skill to master, and when peace doesn't come through trying harder, spiritual inadequacy feels confirmed. Comparing his experience to others' testimonies creates false evidence.
The thief had zero spiritual disciplines, no prayer life, no Bible knowledge, no fruit of the Spirit developed. He believed for maybe five minutes before dying. Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise' - instant rest, instant peace, instant position based purely on belief, not spiritual maturity.
I REFUSE the lie that something is spiritually wrong with me because I can't manufacture peace. IT IS WRITTEN that those who have BELIEVED enter rest - I entered it when I believed, not when I mastered it. Rest is my POSITION in Christ, not my PERFORMANCE level. IT IS WRITTEN the works were finished from the foundation of the world - Jesus already created my rest, I don't have to. I am blessed in the BARAK covenant, which protected LIARS and DECEIVERS - my spiritual maturity level doesn't determine my covenant position. My Father is giving me His peace RIGHT NOW, not waiting for me to become good enough at resting.
Your Father sees you striving to achieve rest and isn't waiting for you to master spiritual disciplines first. He's running toward you like He ran to the thief on the cross who had nothing to offer, placing you in rest by HIS finished work, not by your spiritual performance level.
