"My insomnia proves I haven't established healthy boundaries—rest is for the disciplined."

How it sounds in your head: The Boundaries book says insomnia means I'm saying yes when I should say no. The wellness influencer says self-care isn't selfish. My therapist asks what I'm avoiding by staying busy. Maybe if I could just enforce better limits, prioritize myself, stop people-pleasing—THEN I'd sleep.

Matthew 11:28

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

-- Matthew 11:28
Enemy whispers: 'Your poor boundaries caused this—establish better limits, THEN rest comes.' BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Matthew 11:28 - 'Come to Me, all you who LABOR and are HEAVY LADEN, and I will give you rest.' Jesus invites the BOUNDARY-LESS, the over-functioners, the exhausted people-pleasers to come AS THEY ARE and receive rest. Not 'fix your boundaries first.' He gives rest to those CURRENTLY carrying too much, not those who've mastered saying no.
Quick Truth: LIE: Fix boundaries, then rest. TRUTH: Jesus gives rest to the heavy-laden NOW, not after perfect self-care. Matthew 11:28

Religion: Turns rest into a reward for perfect boundary-setting, making peace conditional on self-protection performance.

Why this feels true:

You DO over-function. You DO say yes too much. You DO put everyone else first. The correlation seems obvious: fix your boundaries, fix your sleep. Every Christian self-help book agrees.

Luke 10:38-42
Martha

Martha over-functioned, had zero boundaries, anxiously served everyone while complaining—and Jesus gently redirected her WITHOUT withdrawing His presence or making her earn rest. He stayed in her home, ate her food, and loved her WHILE she boundary-failed.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that rest is reserved for the boundaried. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Come to Me, all who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' Jesus invites the OVER-FUNCTIONERS, the exhausted yes-sayers, the boundary-challenged—come NOW, not after Boundaries bootcamp. Martha served anxiously with terrible boundaries and Jesus stayed, loved her, redirected GENTLY. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28:6 that I'm blessed coming in and going out—that's not conditional on perfect self-care. The BARAK protected boundary-less people. I receive rest AS I AM, not as I should be. My Father gives sleep to the weary, not the disciplined.

But God actually:

Your Father sees you carrying everyone else's needs at 2am and He's not lecturing about boundaries—He's running toward you with the same invitation He gave Martha: 'Come, heavy-laden daughter, and I'll give you rest RIGHT NOW.'
