"Sleep won't come until I resolve all my relationship problems."
How it sounds in your head: Your son barely calls. Your daughter has that church that feels cult-like. Your brother stopped talking to you over the inheritance. Maybe your wife just died and you're alone. How can you rest when relationships are shattered? You need to fix these before peace comes.
"For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life."
-- Romans 5:10Religion: Makes rest contingent on reconciliation achievement, putting broken man in control of others' responses.
He replays conversations at 2am. The estrangement is real, the pain documented, the silence from his son crushing. Peace feels impossible while relationships burn.
Joseph's brothers SOLD him into slavery, he spent 13 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, yet when they stood before him terrified, he said 'God sent me ahead to preserve life.' No bitterness, no withholding blessing. He was whole BEFORE they reconciled. Rest came from God's purpose, not their apology.
I REFUSE the lie that others' choices steal my rest. IT IS WRITTEN: 'When we were enemies we were reconciled to God'—my peace came BEFORE I cooperated, so my rest comes BEFORE relationships resolve. I cannot control my son, my daughter, my sibling—but I CAN receive what Christ purchased. The BARAK rested on Jacob even when Esau wanted him dead—protection isn't conditional on others' approval. IT IS WRITTEN: 'He Himself is our peace' (Ephesians 2:14)—not 'fixed relationships are our peace,' but HE IS. Jesus is my peace regardless of who's speaking to me. I receive rest NOW, relationship status irrelevant.
The Father reconciled you while you were His enemy—He's not withholding rest until your son calls. He's wrapping you in His peace right now like He wrapped the prodigal in the robe while the older brother fumed outside. Family dysfunction doesn't disqualify you from the Father's blessing.
