"She's sharper mentally—my confusion and memory loss mean I'm losing God too."
How it sounds in your head: You can't remember names, stories, even prayers sometimes. She's still quoting Scripture fluently. You fear that if your mind goes, your faith goes with it. What if you forget God? What if He forgets you?
"Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me."
-- Isaiah 49:15-16Enemy's lie that cognitive ability measures spiritual connection—as if God's love depends on your memory.
Every forgotten word, every confused moment, every blank stare makes you feel like you're disappearing. If you can't remember Scripture, can you still access God?
God struck Zechariah MUTE for unbelief—he couldn't speak, couldn't communicate, had to write everything for nine months. Yet God still fulfilled His promise through him. Loss of ability didn't cancel calling or covenant.
I REFUSE the lie that mental decline separates me from God. IT IS WRITTEN that even if I FORGET, He will NOT forget me—I'm inscribed on His PALMS. My connection to Him doesn't depend on my memory. IT IS WRITTEN that NOTHING can separate me from His love—not death, not confusion, not cognitive loss. Even if I forget every Scripture, HE remembers me. Even if I can't pray coherently, the Spirit intercedes with groans. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and that identity holds even when my mind doesn't. The BARAK blessing doesn't require mental sharpness.
The Father isn't measuring your cognition. He's holding you closer as the fog rolls in, whispering, 'You don't have to remember Me; I remember you. You don't have to find Me; I never let go. Even when you forget your own name, I call you BELOVED.'
