"They have vibrant marriages after 60 years. My spouse is gone or we're just existing."
How it sounds in your head: You see couples still holding hands, still connected, celebrating anniversaries with joy. Either your spouse is gone and you're alone, or you're together but it's just routine and obligation. They have something you don't. You failed at marriage, didn't invest enough, took it for granted. Now it's too late to fix it.
"So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust."
-- Joel 2:25Enemy comparison creating false measurement of marriage success, mixed with condemnation for past mistakes or grief over loss.
Grief over spouse's death is brutal. Or being together but disconnected after decades feels like failure. Seeing vibrant elderly couples highlights what feels missing or lost.
Abraham and Sarah had a DYSFUNCTIONAL marriage—he gave her to kings TWICE, she laughed at God, gave her servant to her husband, treated Hagar horribly. Yet in their OLD AGE, God gave them laughter, joy, and the fulfillment of promise. It's never too late for God to bring LAUGHTER back to your relationship or your heart.
I REFUSE the lie that my marriage is a failure by comparison. IT IS WRITTEN: God will RESTORE the years the locust has eaten. Whether my spouse is with me or gone, God is bringing RESTORATION, COMFORT, and NEW PURPOSE. IT IS WRITTEN: He makes all things beautiful in His time. I reject comparison to other marriages. God is writing MY STORY, and it's under the blessing of Abraham—blessed in relationship, blessed in companionship, blessed with His presence. It's not too late. God is moving NOW.
The Father sees you comparing marriages and wants you to know—He's not grading you against them. He's writing a story of REDEMPTION in your relationship, whether that's restoration with your spouse, comfort in loss, or a new chapter of companionship you haven't imagined. His plan for you is GOOD, and it's unfolding right now.
