"Rich people are greedy and ungodly, so pursuing wealth will corrupt me and my family."
How it sounds in your head: I've seen wealthy men fall—affairs, pride, kids who are spoiled brats. Maybe poverty is actually protecting my family from corruption. Maybe staying small keeps us humble and close to God. Better broke and godly than rich and compromised.
"The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it."
-- Proverbs 10:22Source: Poverty theology demonizing wealth while ignoring that POVERTY doesn't make you righteous—Christ's blood does, and He can keep you IN wealth.
You've watched wealthy men in your church or city have moral failures and heard 'money corrupted them' as the diagnosis. It feels safer to stay broke than risk becoming what you've seen.
Job ended with twice the wealth he started with—14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, 1,000 donkeys. He was the wealthiest man in the East. Did wealth corrupt him? No. He grew closer to God and lived 140 years in blessing. Wealth didn't destroy him; it DISPLAYED God's goodness.
I REFUSE the lie that wealth will corrupt me or destroy my family. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of the LORD makes me rich and adds NO SORROW with it. I am not like men who chased money and fell—I am a son who RECEIVES covenant blessing from my Father's hand. The barak protected Abraham the liar, Isaac the deceiver, and Jacob the thief—it will protect ME in wealth. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me richly all things to enjoy. Wealth in my hands is a KINGDOM TOOL, not a corruption trap. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and righteousness doesn't depend on my bank account—it's a GIFT.
Your Father isn't keeping you broke to protect you from corruption—He's preparing to PROSPER you while KEEPING you pure because that's what covenant does. He's running toward you with wealth that comes with NO SORROW, because He knows you're His son and He trusts His own keeping power.
