"Praying for money is carnal; real faith is being content with barely getting by."
How it sounds in your head: Philippians says 'be content in whatever state you're in,' so asking for more money sounds greedy. Spiritual people pray for souls, not salary increases. If I had real faith, I'd be fine with ramen and roommates forever.
"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
-- Philippians 4:19Religion weaponized Paul's contentment statement to silence legitimate prayers for provision, making poverty sound spiritual and provision sound worldly.
Every 'spiritual' Christian I know is broke and calls it faith. Praying for financial increase feels shallow compared to mission work. Contentment is preached as accepting lack, not resting in abundance.
Solomon asked for wisdom, not riches, and God said 'Because you didn't ask for wealth, I'm giving you wealth anyway - more than any king before or after.' God gave UNSOUGHT riches and said it pleased Him. Wealth wasn't the enemy of spirituality but the overflow of favor.
I REFUSE the lie that praying for provision is carnal or that contentment means accepting lack. IT IS WRITTEN that my God supplies ALL my need according to HIS RICHES in glory - not according to my lack. Paul's contentment was trusting God in PLENTY or want, not sanctifying poverty. IT IS WRITTEN that God wishes I prosper even as my soul prospers. Jesus taught asking for daily bread. The BARAK blessing means commanded blessing on my storehouses. I pray boldly for provision because it aligns with my Father's heart.
Your Father isn't offended when you ask for provision - He's the one who told you to ask for daily bread and promised to supply ALL needs according to HIS riches. He's running toward you with abundance that matches His nature, not your religious performance.
