"Real faith wouldn't struggle with fear and anxiety like I do."
How it sounds in your head: Christians are supposed to be anxious for nothing, right? But I'm anxious about EVERYTHING - college, relationships, the future. If I had real faith, I'd be peaceful. This constant worry proves my faith is garbage.
"Then He said to them, 'My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.'"
-- Matthew 26:38Source: Religion equating emotional struggle with spiritual failure, making peace a performance requirement.
The Instagram Christians look so serene and confident while you're having panic attacks about your ACT score. The verse says 'be anxious for nothing' and you're anxious about EVERYTHING, so clearly you're failing at faith.
Elijah called down fire from heaven, killed 450 false prophets, and immediately fell into suicidal depression, begging God to let him die. God didn't rebuke his faith - He fed him, let him sleep, and spoke gently. Breakthrough came THROUGH the struggle, not after perfecting his emotions.
I REFUSE the lie that anxiety disqualifies my faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus Himself was sorrowful to the point of death, and Elijah was suicidal after mighty victory - emotions don't negate faith. My struggle is not my identity. I am the righteousness of God in Christ whether I FEEL peaceful or not. IT IS WRITTEN there is no condemnation for those in Christ, and that includes condemnation over anxiety. I am blessed with Abraham's blessing by COVENANT, not by emotional perfection. The Father doesn't measure my faith by my cortisol levels - He sees me as righteous because of JESUS, and that truth stands whether I'm calm or panicking.
The Father sees your anxiety and doesn't say 'try harder to be calm.' He says 'Come to Me, weary and heavy laden, and I will give you REST.' Like feeding Elijah in depression instead of lecturing him, God meets you IN the struggle with tenderness, not condemnation.
