"Real Christians don't get divorced, so my parents aren't really saved or I'm not either."
How it sounds in your head: The Bible is clear about divorce. If they were truly walking with God, this wouldn't have happened. Either they were faking it the whole time or Christianity doesn't actually work. And if it didn't work for them, why would it work for you?
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
-- Ephesians 2:8-9Source: Religion's works-based salvation that measures relationship with God by circumstances, not blood.
You see other 'good Christian families' staying together. Yours fell apart. The only explanation seems to be that your family wasn't really saved or committed enough.
Peter DENIED Christ three times - the worst possible failure for a disciple. Jesus didn't question his salvation or disqualify him. He restored him instantly, asked 'Do you love Me?' three times, and gave him the keys to launch the church.
I REFUSE the lie that divorce proves lost salvation. IT IS WRITTEN that we are saved by GRACE through faith, NOT by perfect circumstances. My parents' marriage status does NOT determine their - or my - position in Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that NOTHING separates us from God's love. Peter DENIED Jesus and was instantly restored. Salvation is based on the CROSS, not performance. I am saved by BLOOD, secure in GRACE, sealed by the SPIRIT. The barak blessing flows from COVENANT, not conduct.
The Father doesn't measure salvation by marriage success - He measures it by the blood of His Son. Your parents are as saved after divorce as before, because Jesus doesn't take back what He purchased.
