"Opening my heart again just sets me up for more pain"
How it sounds in your head: Every time I care, I get hurt. Every time I believe someone, they prove me wrong. Why would I volunteer for more heartbreak? Staying closed is just being realistic about how people are.
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
-- Isaiah 43:18-19Enemy convincing her that past pain predicts future outcomes, prophesying repeated betrayal over new relationships
Her personal history seems to prove this pattern, making it feel like an inevitable cycle. The fear of pain feels more immediate than the hope of connection.
This paralyzed man had been let down by his body for years, but he OPENED HIS HEART to trust four friends to carry him to Jesus—they literally tore open a roof to get him there. His willingness to be vulnerable and dependent resulted in INSTANT healing, both physical and relational.
I REFUSE the lie that opening my heart leads to pain! IT IS WRITTEN that God is doing a NEW thing that is springing forth RIGHT NOW—my past does not dictate my future. The former betrayals are NOT the pattern for what's coming. I am a daughter under the covenant blessing, and that blessing includes divine relationships that LIFE me instead of wound me. IT IS WRITTEN that His mercies are new EVERY morning—including new friendships, new trust, new experiences of people who stay. God is not setting me up for more pain; He's setting me up for RESTORATION of what betrayal stole. I am brave enough to open my heart again because HE is guarding it.
The Father isn't asking you to open your heart to prove you're healed—He's already healed the parts that were shattered, and now He's introducing you to people who will honor the treasure you are. He's not repeating your past; He's rewriting your future.
