"One slip and I'm back to zero — all progress lost"
How it sounds in your head: You've stayed clean 5 years, 10 years, 15 years. But if you slip once, the counter resets. You'll have to start over, re-introduce yourself with 'Day 1' again. All that time means nothing if you stumble. It's all-or-nothing.
"There is therefore now NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus."
-- Romans 8:1Religion/Performance-based systems that measure righteousness by streak count instead of covenant blood
Recovery programs literally make you restart your sobriety date, get a new chip, start counting from zero again. Your church probably has a 'restoration process' before you can serve again. Every stumble feels like total failure.
Peter denied Jesus THREE TIMES after swearing he'd die for Him — total public failure. Jesus didn't make him re-earn his position or start a 'restoration process.' He made breakfast on the beach, asked 'Do you love Me?' three times (matching the denials), and immediately REINSTATED him to leadership: 'Feed My sheep.'
I REFUSE the lie that one stumble resets everything. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus — not 'less condemnation,' NO condemnation. My righteousness isn't based on a streak count but on the BLOOD OF JESUS, which never loses its power. IT IS WRITTEN that by one offering He has PERFECTED me FOREVER. A branch attached to the vine doesn't restart its growth from zero when the wind shakes it — it stays ATTACHED, and the sap keeps flowing. I am SEALED by the Holy Spirit, PERFECTED in Christ, and my Father's love doesn't have a reset button. I stand RIGHTEOUS, not because I've maintained perfection, but because HIS perfection covers me.
Father doesn't have a sobriety counter or a performance chart. He sees you IN CHRIST — and that position never changes with your performance. Like Peter denied Him three times and Jesus made him breakfast the next week, Father is making breakfast for YOU, asking 'Do you love Me?' not 'How's your streak?'
