"Once people see the real me—my thoughts, my body, my past—they'll be disgusted and leave."
How it sounds in your head: I've already seen things I shouldn't have seen online. I've already thought things that would horrify my parents. My body is developing in ways that feel shameful and confusing. If anyone knew what goes on in my head, they'd be repulsed. I'm getting really good at hiding.
"O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether."
-- Psalm 139:1-4Enemy weaponizing normal curiosity + shame from early sexual exposure + religious purity culture that says you're 'damaged goods' if not perfect.
Puberty brings thoughts and urges no one warned her about, and every message says good girls don't struggle with this. She's already stumbled into things online that feel like permanent stains, and the silence around her makes her think she's uniquely broken.
A prostitute in Jericho—her entire identity was sexual sin, known by the whole city. She hid Israelite spies, declared faith in their God, and was INSTANTLY brought into the covenant family—no cleanup period, no proving herself. She's in JESUS' BLOODLINE in Matthew 1—God put a prostitute in the Messianic genealogy on PURPOSE.
I REFUSE the lie that the real me is too shameful to be loved. IT IS WRITTEN that God has SEARCHED me and KNOWN me—He knows my every thought, my every struggle, my every stumble, and He is not repulsed. He is ACQUAINTED with all my ways, which means nothing about me is news to Him, and He's never stopped pursuing me. My curiosity is not disqualification; my body is not shameful; my thoughts do not make me damaged goods. IT IS WRITTEN that He understands my thoughts from afar off, which means He gets it—He GETS me—and still calls me His own. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, not because I've hidden well, but because HE has covered me completely. There is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus.
The Father isn't waiting behind the door with a shame list when you finally let Him in. He's the One who came looking for Adam and Eve when THEY were hiding, naked and ashamed, and His first act was to CLOTHE them Himself. He's clothing you right now, covering what you think disqualifies you, running toward you with the robe of righteousness before you even finish your confession.
