"Needing therapy or medication proves my faith isn't strong enough."
How it sounds in your head: If I just prayed more or had stronger faith, I wouldn't need these pills. Real men of God don't need antidepressants. I'm taking the easy way out instead of trusting God completely.
"No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities."
-- 1 Timothy 5:23Religious teaching that spiritualizes physical needs and creates false hierarchy between faith and medicine.
Church culture often elevates 'prayer warriors' who refuse medical help as more spiritual. Seeing medication as lack of trust feels noble, like he's protecting God's reputation by suffering without help.
When Hezekiah was sick unto death, God healed him - but the method was Isaiah applying a lump of figs as medicine to the boil. God used both prayer AND medical treatment without contradiction.
I REFUSE the lie that using medical help proves weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Paul prescribed medicine to Timothy and traveled with Luke the physician. God is not insulted when I use the tools He created through common grace. I am Abraham's seed by promise, blessed with access to every good gift including medical treatment. IT IS WRITTEN in James 1:17 that every good gift comes from the Father. My righteousness is not proven by suffering without help - it's given freely through Christ's blood. I receive healing through whatever means my Father provides without shame or apology.
The Father who sent Isaiah with medicinal figs for Hezekiah sends you toward healing with whatever tools work. He's not standing back with arms crossed waiting for you to prove something - He's actively providing every avenue of relief.
