"I'm a burden and should just die quickly instead of making everyone suffer"
How it sounds in your head: I can't do anything for myself anymore. My family has to feed me, clean me, watch me deteriorate. I'm destroying their lives. A quick death would be mercy for everyone. I'm just taking up space.
"You have granted me life and favor, and Your care has preserved my spirit."
-- Job 10:12Cultural teaching that value equals productivity, combined with masculine identity rooted in provision and self-sufficiency.
His entire identity was built on being useful—the provider, the fixer, the strong one. Complete dependence feels like he's become everything he fought against. He sees the fatigue in his caregivers' eyes.
Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet, completely dependent, and King David brought him to the palace to eat at his table DAILY for the rest of his life—not for what he could do, but because of covenant. His disability didn't diminish his welcome.
I REFUSE the lie that my value is tied to my productivity. IT IS WRITTEN that God grants life and favor—my existence IS the favor. I am not a burden; I am beloved. The BARAK blessing over me declares I am blessed coming in and going out, even when carried. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus welcomed the weak, the broken, the dependent—they were never disqualified. My family's service to me is their privilege, not their prison. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, valued for WHO I AM, not what I do. My breath is still purpose.
Your Father sees you like He saw Mephibosheth—not as a burden to tolerate but as a son to honor. You're at His table not because you earned it, but because of covenant.
