"If I had enough faith, I wouldn't need medication for my depression or anxiety."
How it sounds in your head: You've walked with God for decades. You should be strong enough by now to just pray it away. Taking medication means you're not trusting God. Your generation didn't talk about mental health—you just pushed through. This feels like spiritual failure.
"No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities."
-- 1 Timothy 5:23Religion teaching that mental health struggles equal lack of faith, creating false dichotomy between medicine and trust.
You've seen healing happen and wonder why yours doesn't come the same way. After years of faithful service, it feels humiliating to still struggle with something invisible that younger believers might judge.
Timothy was Paul's protégé doing powerful ministry yet had frequent physical infirmities and stomach problems. Paul prescribed medicine without questioning Timothy's faith, proving physical struggles don't indicate spiritual weakness.
I REFUSE the lie that medication is a lack of faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Paul told faithful Timothy to use medicine for his frequent infirmities. My brain chemistry is part of my body, covered by Christ's finished work. I am the righteousness of God in Christ whether my serotonin is balanced or not. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. The BARAK blessing over my life includes wholeness, and I receive help through any means Father provides—prayer, medicine, counseling, or all three.
Father is running toward you with the robe of righteousness that has nothing to do with your brain chemistry. He's not waiting for you to get your mental health perfect—He's celebrating that you're His daughter right now, medication and all.
