"My worth is measured by how many people show up and how much the ministry grows."
How it sounds in your head: Every Sunday you count. Every event you measure. Other churches are growing and yours is plateaued. You check the giving reports like a stock ticker. If the numbers aren't up, you're failing. Your entire identity rises and falls with attendance.
"But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7Source: World's success metrics infiltrating the church, making ministry about numbers instead of obedience.
Leadership books measure everything. Conferences celebrate big numbers. Your denomination tracks growth. Without metrics, how do you know if you're succeeding? The numbers feel like God's approval rating.
God called Jeremiah to preach to a nation that wouldn't listen - his 'success metric' was ZERO conversions and imprisonment. Yet God called him a success because he was FAITHFUL, not because he filled seats.
I REFUSE the lie that my worth is measured by attendance or growth metrics. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord looks at the HEART, not the outward appearance. I am not a CEO measured by quarterly earnings - I am a SON measured by the Father's delight. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 1:10 that if I'm pleasing men, I'm not a servant of Christ. I declare my identity is NOT in numbers but in being LOVED by the Father. Noah preached 120 years for 8 people and God called it success. I am blessed coming in and going out, the head and not the tail, under the BARAK blessing that doesn't depend on crowd size.
The Father isn't checking your attendance reports - He's celebrating that you showed up to love the one person He sent you. While you're comparing yourself to megachurches, He's throwing a party over your faithfulness to the few.
