"My gifting is my identity, so if I'm not using it I'm wasting my life."
How it sounds in your head: God gave you this gift for a reason. Other people don't have what you have. If you're not leading worship, preaching, teaching—you're squandering what He gave you. Sitting on the sidelines is disobedience.
"He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love."
-- Song of Solomon 2:4Religion equating DOING with BEING, making your function more important than your identity as loved child.
People have affirmed your gifts since you were young, and now you don't know who you are without them. Being benched feels like being nobody.
While Martha worked frantically serving Jesus, Mary sat at His feet doing NOTHING productive. When Martha complained, Jesus said Mary chose 'the ONE thing needed'—not serving, not doing, just BEING with Him. Sitting with Jesus while others work is the BETTER choice, not laziness.
I REFUSE the lie that my gifting defines my worth or that sitting still is wasting my life. IT IS WRITTEN that His banner over me is LOVE, not performance—I'm invited to the banquet for who I AM, not what I DO. I am a branch that abides, and seasons of REST produce deeper roots for future fruit. IT IS WRITTEN that the BLESSING of Abraham is mine through Christ—blessed in the city and field, in DOING and in BEING. I declare the BARAK over my identity—Abraham was blessed before he did anything, and I'm blessed before I produce anything. I am righteous by GIFT, loved by POSITION, celebrated by the Father for existing as His daughter, not for performing as His servant.
The Father doesn't love you more when you're on stage—He celebrates you the same when you're sitting at His feet doing nothing 'productive.' The prodigal produced ZERO ministry fruit, and the Father threw the biggest party of his life.
