"My secret addiction proves I was never really saved in the first place."
How it sounds in your head: Real Christians don't struggle like this. You've been 'saved' for years, but you keep going back to the same pit. Maybe you never actually got saved. Maybe it was just emotional hype, and your addiction is proof the Holy Spirit was never really in you. You're still the same person you always were.
"And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand."
-- John 10:28Calvinist-adjacent teaching that ongoing sin evidences false conversion, mixed with enemy accusation.
He expected salvation to automatically remove the addiction, and the ongoing struggle feels like evidence of fraudulent faith. The enemy uses every relapse as proof he was never really born again.
Samson repeatedly broke his Nazarite vow, slept with prostitutes, married pagans, and told his secret to Delilah. He lost his strength, his eyes, and his freedom. In chains and blind, he prayed one prayer—and God restored his power and used him to defeat more Philistines in his death than in his life. Addiction to final victory in one prayer.
I REFUSE the lie that my addiction proves I was never saved. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus gives me eternal life and I will NEVER perish. My salvation is not based on my ability to conquer addiction—it's based on His finished work. I am sealed by the Holy Spirit, a child of God, regardless of my current battle. IT IS WRITTEN that nothing can separate me from the love of God in Christ. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. My struggle doesn't negate my salvation; it's the battleground where I'm learning to walk in the freedom that's already mine. I am blessed with the BARAK blessing—covered even in weakness.
The Father doesn't question your salvation every time you stumble. He's not hand-wringing over whether you're really His. You're sealed, named, and secure. Your addiction is not evidence against your salvation—it's the enemy's last stand against a son who's already won.
