"My prayers don't work because I don't pray long or hard enough"
How it sounds in your head: Other people have prayer closets and wake at 4am. I'm lucky to manage five minutes. No wonder my prayers bounce off the ceiling—I haven't earned access.
"And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words"
-- Matthew 6:7Works-based religion that turns prayer into a performance God grades
She sees books about prayer warriors who intercede for hours and feels her quick bedtime prayers are insulting. Breakthrough seems reserved for those who pay their dues in prayer time.
A tax collector prayed exactly eight words—'God, be merciful to me a sinner'—while a Pharisee prayed eloquently and long. The brief prayer went home JUSTIFIED; the long one didn't.
I REFUSE the lie that prayer length determines God's response. IT IS WRITTEN that vain repetitions and many words don't move God—desperation does. I am not a servant earning audience through hours logged; I am a DAUGHTER with instant access through Jesus' blood. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 4:16 I come BOLDLY to the throne of grace—not hesitantly after I've prayed enough, but BOLDLY because of covenant. The tax collector's eight-word prayer outperformed the Pharisee's sermon. My access is based on HIS righteousness, not my prayer endurance.
The Father isn't checking your prayer time like a punch clock—He's been waiting to answer before you even opened your mouth (Isaiah 65:24). The prodigal's father ran while the son was 'still a long way off,' before any long repentance speech.
