"My poverty is God's will to keep me humble and dependent on Him."
How it sounds in your head: You've been taught that wealth corrupts and poverty purifies. Struggling financially keeps you praying, keeps you humble, keeps you from the pride that money brings. You believe God is using lack as a sanctification tool, and accepting poverty is accepting His will for your character development.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Source: Religious poverty gospel that makes God the author of lack and confuses humility with deprivation.
You've seen wealthy people become prideful and fall away, and your greatest intimacy with God HAS come in seasons of need. The teaching that suffering produces character is everywhere, and it feels spiritual to embrace poverty as God's plan.
After his season of suffering (which God did NOT cause—Satan did), God didn't leave Job in poverty to stay humble. God restored DOUBLE everything he lost—twice the livestock, twice the wealth, complete restoration plus increase, proving God's end game is BLESSING, not lack.
I REFUSE the lie that poverty is God's will for my humility. IT IS WRITTEN that God desires I prosper in ALL THINGS and be in health. Jesus became POOR so I might become RICH—that's 2 Corinthians 8:9, not a prosperity gimmick but SCRIPTURE. Poverty is the CURSE; blessing is the COVENANT. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28 that I am blessed coming in and going out, the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. The BARAK made Abraham so wealthy that kings negotiated with him. I am Abraham's seed. I don't glorify God by being broke—I glorify Him by demonstrating His GOODNESS through abundance. I declare PROSPERITY as my covenant right.
Your Father is not keeping you poor to build character—He's aching to show you that the same God who killed the fattened calf for the prodigal wants to PROSPER you in ALL things. Poverty is not His tool; ABUNDANCE is His nature.
