"I'm being punished financially for past mistakes and sin."
How it sounds in your head: I wasted money in college. I made dumb financial decisions in my early twenties. I sinned sexually and now I'm paying for it. This struggle is what I deserve—I'm reaping what I sowed.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religion teaches karma-style cause and effect: your current suffering is direct punishment for past sin, making God a cosmic accountant settling scores.
You can trace financial struggles back to specific bad decisions. The timing seems too perfect—struggle followed sin. It feels like justice, like you're serving a sentence you earned.
Caught in the ACT of adultery with the Law demanding she be stoned to death. Jesus dismissed her accusers and said 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more'—no punishment, no penance period, no probation. INSTANT restoration despite being guilty.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm being financially punished for past sin. IT IS WRITTEN: He has forgiven me ALL trespasses and nailed the charges to the cross—there is no debt left. The woman caught in ADULTERY received ZERO condemnation from Jesus—He said 'Neither do I condemn you.' IT IS WRITTEN: There is therefore NOW no condemnation to those in Christ. My past is under the blood. I am the blessed of Abraham by covenant, and that blessing protected LIARS, DECEIVERS, and MURDERERS. How much more does it protect me under the BETTER covenant?
Your Father isn't punishing you—He already punished His Son in your place. Every penalty was paid at the cross. Right now He sees you as righteous, not as someone serving a sentence. He's not holding your past against you; He's holding out blessing with both hands.
