"My past mistakes disqualify me from speaking into my kids' lives."
How it sounds in your head: How can you tell them not to do something you did? You partied in college. You struggled with porn. You made financial mistakes. You're a hypocrite if you try to guide them when you failed in those same areas.
"This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life."
-- 1 Timothy 1:15-16Religious condemnation saying your past defines your present authority despite complete redemption in Christ.
You remember your failures vividly and feel like a fraud giving advice about areas where you messed up. Your kids might even know some of your past, and you fear losing credibility.
She had five husbands and was living with a man—sexually broken, socially shamed. After ONE conversation with Jesus, she IMMEDIATELY went and told her whole city, and 'many believed because of her testimony.' Her past became her platform instantly.
I REFUSE the lie that my past disqualifies me from speaking truth to my children. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ showed mercy in Paul the chief of sinners as a PATTERN for others—my story of redemption is a teaching tool, not a disqualification. My kids don't need a perfect father; they need a REDEEMED one who can show them grace is real. IT IS WRITTEN that there is no condemnation for those in Christ, and that includes no condemnation over my past. I speak from authority not because I never fell but because I've been lifted. My past is testimony, not disqualification. I am the righteousness of God in Christ RIGHT NOW, and my voice carries the Father's authority in my home.
The Father is whispering, 'Tell them your story. Show them how I rescued you. Let them see that MY grace is bigger than any mistake.' He's not embarrassed by your past—He's USING it to demonstrate that nothing is beyond His reach, including them.
