Too Much
"My needs are too much for my wife to handle at this stage of life."

How it sounds in your head: I see the exhaustion in her eyes when I ask for help. My health issues are wearing her down. I'm becoming a burden she didn't sign up for when we were young.

Ruth 1:16-17

"But Ruth said: 'Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.'"

-- Ruth 1:16-17
Enemy whispers: 'Your needs are overwhelming her.' BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Ruth 1:16-17 - Ruth CHOSE the harder path with Naomi, saying 'Where you die, I will die.' Covenant love INCREASES in difficulty, not decreases. Your wife's weariness isn't rejection of YOU—it's the shared weight of aging that God designed you to carry TOGETHER. IT IS WRITTEN in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 'Two are better than one... if one falls, the other lifts him up.' You're not too much. You're EXACTLY who she committed to walk with until death parts you.
Quick Truth: LIE: My needs overwhelm my wife. TRUTH: Covenant love intensifies in difficulty. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Where you die, I will die' (Ruth 1:17). You're her PARTNER, not her burden.

Enemy exploiting physical decline to attack covenant unity and steal peace in final years together.

Why this feels true:

Her energy isn't what it was, and you genuinely need more help with medications, appointments, daily tasks. You see her stress and assume you're the cause, forgetting she signed a 'better or worse' covenant.

2 Samuel 19:31-39
Barzillai

Barzillai at 80 years old provided for David's entire army during Absalom's rebellion, then told David 'I am too old' to go to Jerusalem. David didn't reject him or call him burdensome—he BLESSED him, kissed him, and honored his limitations while ensuring his family was cared for perpetually.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that my aging needs make me a burden to my wife. IT IS WRITTEN that two are better than one and covenant love says 'where you die, I will die.' I am NOT too much—I am her COVENANT PARTNER, blessed to face these years together under the BARAK of Abraham that protects BOTH of us. My Father doesn't measure my worth by my independence but by my IDENTITY as His son. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives power to the weak and increases strength to those who have no might. I receive GRACE for every need and declare my marriage is STRENGTHENED, not strained, in these final years.

But God actually:

The Father is running toward BOTH of you with supernatural grace for this season, not waiting for you to 'need less.' He's whispering to her heart the same truth He gave Ruth—that walking the hard road TOGETHER is where the greatest blessing flows, and He's about to release provision and help you haven't even thought to ask for.
