"My need for help with basic tasks makes me too dependent and draining."
How it sounds in your head: You can't button your own shirt anymore. Someone has to help you shower. You need assistance standing up. Basic dignity is gone. You're draining everyone who has to do these intimate tasks for you. You're too much to care for.
"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
-- Galatians 6:2Pride lie mixed with shame, making necessary help evidence of being burdensome instead of human
Tasks he's done independently his entire life now require assistance—bathing, dressing, toileting. The loss of independence feels like loss of dignity. He sees the sacrifice in caregivers' faces.
This man couldn't move for 38 YEARS—completely dependent for everything. When Jesus found him, He didn't say 'You're too much' or 'Try harder.' He spoke ONE WORD: 'Rise.' INSTANT healing after nearly four decades of total dependence. His need didn't disqualify him from miracle.
I REFUSE the lie that my need for help makes me too much. IT IS WRITTEN that bearing one another's burdens FULFILLS Christ's law—my need is someone's opportunity to obey. My dependence doesn't drain people—it invites them into love. IT IS WRITTEN that His strength is made perfect in weakness. The BARAK blessing covers me in independence AND dependence—my worth isn't tied to what I can do. I am not too much to care for. I am LOVED at every level of need. My dependence is covered by His abundance.
The Father isn't measuring how much help you need—He's providing it through willing hands. He's running toward you saying 'Every person helping you is My hand extended—you're not draining them, you're receiving My care through them.'
