"My mom's mental illness is my fault and my burden to fix."
How it sounds in your head: When she has a breakdown, I feel like I caused it. When she's having a bad day, I try to manage everyone's emotions to keep the peace. If I was just better at helping her, maybe she'd get better.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
-- Matthew 11:28-30Enemy assigning adult responsibility to a child, creating false savior complex and blocking revelation that Jesus is the only Healer.
You've been the emotional caretaker since you were little. You've learned to read her moods, manage the chaos, and carry the weight. The pattern is so ingrained it feels like your job.
Four friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus, couldn't get through the crowd, tore open a ROOF, and lowered him down. They brought him TO Jesus—they didn't try to heal him themselves. Jesus healed him INSTANTLY. Their job was connection, not cure.
I REFUSE the lie that my mom's mental illness is mine to fix. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus invites the heavy laden to come to HIM for rest—His burden is LIGHT, and this crushing weight isn't from Him. I'm not her savior; Jesus is. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 55:22 to cast my burden on the LORD, and He will sustain me. I can love her without carrying what only GOD can heal. I can pray for her, bring her to Jesus, but I can't BE Jesus for her. I release the false responsibility and receive the REST Jesus offers. I am her son, not her healer. I am FREE to be a kid, held by the Father who carries us both.
The Father sees you trying to hold your family together and His heart is breaking for YOU. He's not waiting for you to fix your mom so He can bless you—He's inviting you to lay down the weight you were never meant to carry and let HIM be the Healer while you just get to be the kid.
