"My minority status means I'll never fully belong in predominantly white spaces, even at church."
How it sounds in your head: You've been the only one in the room for so long you stopped expecting it to change. At church, you smile through the awkward comments, the worship music that doesn't resonate, the cultural references you don't share. You've made peace with being perpetually on the margins, even in the body of Christ.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
-- Galatians 3:28Enemy using denominational and cultural homogeneity to deny your full membership in the body of Christ.
You're literally the only one, week after week. They mean well, but you're always explaining, always translating, always aware of your difference. Belonging requires conformity, and you're tired of shrinking to fit.
Sexually marginalized African man reading Scripture he didn't fully understand, ethnically and physically excluded from Jewish worship. Philip showed up, explained Jesus, and baptized him on the spot—no waiting period, no assimilation required, no committee approval. Immediate full inclusion in the body of Christ, and he went on his way REJOICING.
I REFUSE the lie that I don't fully belong. IT IS WRITTEN that in Christ there is NEITHER Jew nor Greek—we are ALL ONE in Christ Jesus. My ethnicity is not a deficit; it's part of the multi-colored wisdom of God displayed through the church. I don't need their comfort to validate my membership; I have the SPIRIT OF GOD as my seal of belonging. IT IS WRITTEN that God has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the earth. The Ethiopian eunuch was baptized immediately with no cultural assimilation required. I belong because JESUS SAYS SO, and no awkward comment or cultural gap can alter my position as a joint-heir with Christ.
The Father isn't asking you to find a more diverse church or wait for them to get woke. He's running toward you with the full acceptance that doesn't require code-switching, assimilation, or explaining yourself—meeting you exactly as you are and declaring you FULLY part of the family, margins erased, because in Him there ARE no margins.
