"My mental health struggles mean I'm not spiritual enough"
How it sounds in your head: If you really had faith, you wouldn't need medication. Christians have 'peace that passes understanding'—your anxiety proves you're failing spiritually. Depression means you're not grateful enough. Other girls seem to have it together; you're the broken one.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Source: Western church that treats mental health as a faith problem instead of a medical reality in a fallen world.
When you mentioned anxiety, someone said 'just pray more' or quoted Philippians 4:6. You've watched girls post Bible verses about joy while you can barely get out of bed, and you wonder what's wrong with YOUR faith.
Elijah called fire from heaven, killed 450 false prophets, then immediately spiraled into suicidal depression, praying 'take my life.' God didn't lecture him about faith—He let him SLEEP, sent an angel with FOOD twice, and gave him 40 days to rest before speaking.
I REFUSE the lie that my mental health struggles mean I lack faith. IT IS WRITTEN that God's strength is made PERFECT in weakness—not in my ability to manufacture joy. IT IS WRITTEN that Elijah battled suicidal depression after his greatest victory, and God responded with rest and food, not rebuke. My brain chemistry is not a spiritual scorecard. I am the righteousness of God in Christ whether I'm medicated or not, anxious or not, depressed or not. The Father isn't disappointed in my mental health—He's PRESENT in it, and His grace is sufficient every single moment.
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'get better' to love you fully—He's holding you in the darkness, providing medical help as GRACE, and your vulnerability is not weakness but the place His power shows up strongest. He sent Jesus to heal the brokenhearted—that includes brain chemistry.
