"My mental health struggles are actually demonic and medication would just mask spiritual warfare."
How it sounds in your head: The church says this is spiritual, not chemical. Taking medication means I don't have enough faith. Real Christians overcome through prayer, not psychiatry. Maybe I'm just weak spiritually.
"Jesus answered and said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.'"
-- Luke 5:31Source: Religious teaching that creates false dichotomy between spiritual warfare and legitimate medical needs.
Church culture often stigmatizes mental health treatment as lack of faith. The timing of symptoms during spiritual attacks seems to confirm demonic origin rather than medical condition.
Paul's spiritual son Timothy had ongoing stomach issues. Paul didn't cast out a demon of stomach problems or rebuke Timothy's faith. He told him to use wine—a medicinal solution—for his physical condition. Medical intervention wasn't viewed as spiritual failure.
I REFUSE the lie that seeking medical help is spiritual failure. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus endorsed physicians for the sick. God created my brain chemistry and understands it perfectly. I can stand on His promises AND use the medical wisdom He's provided. IT IS WRITTEN: In the multitude of counselors there is safety. I am not weak for seeking help—I am WISE. I am Abraham's seed, blessed in ALL things including health resources. My Father isn't disappointed in medical intervention. He INVENTED medical science. I receive His provision through every channel He provides.
Your Father isn't condemning you for seeking medical help. He's running toward you with compassion for your struggle, providing skilled physicians as part of His care, celebrating that you're receiving the help He's making available through every good gift.
