"My kids' behavior reflects my worth as a mom"
How it sounds in your head: When they act out in public, everyone judges me. If they're struggling, it means I'm doing something wrong. Good moms have well-behaved kids.
"But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7Performance-based identity measuring worth by outcomes rather than covenant position
She feels every sideways glance when her kid melts down in Target. Society judges mothers harshly for children's behavior, and she internalizes that judgment.
Samuel was Israel's greatest judge and prophet, yet his sons 'did not walk in his ways' but turned aside after dishonest gain. His sons' choices didn't negate his faithfulness or calling.
I REFUSE the lie that my children's behavior determines my worth. IT IS WRITTEN that God looks at the HEART, not just outcomes. I am a faithful mom who loves well—that's what God sees. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 1:6 that God completes the work He starts. I plant, water, and trust God for the harvest. My worth is IN CHRIST, not in my kids' performance.
Your Father is running toward you with eyes that see your faithful heart, not the Target tantrum. He's celebrating your perseverance, not measuring you by their meltdowns.
