"I'm messing up my kids and they'll resent me forever for my mistakes."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I lose my temper or forget something important, I'm scarring them. They'll look back and remember all the times I failed. I'm not patient enough, not present enough, not good enough.
"All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children."
-- Isaiah 54:13Enemy accusation amplified by social media comparison and parenting perfectionism culture.
You see other dads who seem calm and together while you snapped at your kid this morning. The memory of your own father's failures haunts you, and you're terrified of repeating the cycle.
Manoah was so clueless about parenting the promised son that he literally prayed 'teach us what to do with the boy!' He didn't even know he'd met an angel. God still gave him Samson, a deliverer of Israel, despite dad's obvious confusion.
I REFUSE the lie that my imperfections are damaging my children permanently. IT IS WRITTEN that all my children shall be taught by the LORD and great shall be their peace. I am not their savior—Jesus is. I am the BRANCH, and as I abide in the VINE, good fruit comes through me automatically without striving. My kids are covered by the BARAK blessing that flows through the covenant in my bloodline. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 3:29 that if I am Christ's, then I am Abraham's seed and HEIR according to the promise. The same blessing that protected Abraham's kids through his lies protects mine through my mistakes. My Father is writing their story, and it's better than I could plan.
The Father sees you exhausted at the end of the day, replaying every mistake, and He's running toward you with the robe of righteousness saying 'You are a GOOD father because you are MY son.' He's been parenting your kids through you, and every moment you worried proves your heart is turned toward them—which is ALL He requires.
