"I don't have the emotional tools to help my son process what he's going through."
How it sounds in your head: He's dealing with anxiety, maybe depression, identity questions I never faced at his age. I don't know the right things to say. I'm from the 'tough it out' generation and that's not working. He needs professional help because I'm not equipped for this.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
-- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4Enemy lie that God only uses the credentialed and that love without expertise is insufficient.
His struggles are objectively more complex than what you faced. The language of mental health is foreign to you, and you feel like you're fumbling in the dark.
Joseph had to raise GOD INCARNATE with zero parenting manual for 'how to raise the Messiah.' No credentials, no expertise, no roadmap. He just showed up faithfully, and Jesus turned out fine.
I REFUSE the lie that I lack what my son needs. IT IS WRITTEN that God is the Father of mercies who comforts us so we can comfort others. The Holy Spirit living in me is the ULTIMATE counselor, and He speaks through my presence and love. IT IS WRITTEN that I have the mind of Christ. My son doesn't need my expertise—he needs my availability to the Father. The BARAK blessing on my household means God's wisdom is commanded upon my family. I am the head and not the tail; divine insight is my inheritance.
The Father isn't looking for you to have all the answers—He's looking for you to point your son to the One who does. Every 'I don't know, but let's pray' is you parenting exactly right. God is fathering your son THROUGH your limitations, not waiting for you to overcome them.
