"My insomnia is punishment for past sin and poor choices."
How it sounds in your head: You know what you did. The decisions you made, the years you wasted, the people you hurt. This sleeplessness feels like payback—cosmic consequences you can't escape. You reap what you sow, and you're reaping sleepless nights for a sinful past.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religious lie mixing Old Covenant consequences with New Covenant grace, assigning current suffering to past sin that Jesus already paid for.
The timeline connects in your mind—things were better before, worse after. The guilt is real, the regret is heavy, and sleeplessness feels like fitting punishment.
Manasseh sacrificed his own sons to demons, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and was the most wicked king in Judah's history. When he cried out to God from prison, God HEARD him and restored him to his kingdom. No process, no punishment—instant forgiveness and restoration.
I REFUSE the lie that my insomnia is punishment. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus wiped out EVERY requirement against me and nailed it to the cross. My past is not creating my present—the enemy is, and I break that assignment now. I am NOT under law but under GRACE, and there is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus. Whatever I did, Jesus already paid for it. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 John 1:9 that He is faithful to forgive and cleanse me from ALL unrighteousness. The BARAK blessing protected Abraham the liar and Jacob the deceiver—how much more does it cover me under the BETTER covenant? I receive rest as a son, not as punishment.
The Father isn't withholding sleep as payback. He's running toward you with the gift of peace, having already forgiven everything the moment you believed. Like the prodigal received the robe, ring, and party while still smelling like pigs, you receive rest before you've 'made up' for anything.
