"My fibromyalgia is a thorn in the flesh I must bear like Paul did."
How it sounds in your head: God told Paul 'My grace is sufficient' when he asked for relief. Maybe this chronic pain is my thorn to keep me humble and dependent. Three times I've prayed—maybe like Paul, the answer is no.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5Misapplied Scripture (religion) using Paul's 'thorn' to justify permanent suffering and frame healing requests as lacking faith.
The 'thorn in the flesh' passage is constantly quoted to explain unanswered healing prayers. It provides spiritual dignity to ongoing suffering and makes accepting pain seem like maturity.
Blind from BIRTH—his entire life. Disciples asked 'who sinned, him or his parents?' Jesus said NEITHER—'this happened so God's works would be displayed.' He spit, made clay, anointed the man's eyes, and he was IMMEDIATELY healed and could see.
I REFUSE the lie that fibromyalgia is my thorn to bear. IT IS WRITTEN that by Jesus' stripes I WAS healed—past tense, already accomplished. Paul's thorn was a messenger of Satan buffeting him, not a disease gift from God. Jesus healed EVERY sick person, never once saying 'keep this for character development.' IT IS WRITTEN that God made Jesus who knew no sin to BE sin so I could become the righteousness of God—He doesn't give righteousness and withhold healing. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing includes health without condition. I declare fibromyalgia has NO biblical right to my body—Jesus already carried it 2,000 years ago.
Your Father didn't design a beautiful redemption plan and then say 'but I'll keep her in pain to keep her humble.' Jesus took stripes on His back specifically for your fibromyalgia. He's not asking you to bear what He already carried—He's inviting you to receive what He already purchased.
