"My doubting faith is why I'm dying alone without family here"
How it sounds in your head: They don't visit. They don't call. I'm in this hospice room by myself while other patients have family filling the halls. If I'd had the faith to be a better witness, a better man, they'd be here. My weak faith cost me their love.
"and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household.'"
-- Matthew 10:36Religion made family connection contingent on YOUR spiritual performance, turning relational distance into evidence of faith failure instead of others' free will.
The empty room and silence feel like judgment. You see other patients with visiting families and assume your faith deficiency drove yours away.
Joseph's own brothers HATED him so much they couldn't speak peaceably to him, then sold him into slavery. He was the RIGHTEOUS one, the favored one - family rejection didn't prove his failure; it proved their hardness.
I REFUSE the lie that family absence proves faith failure. IT IS WRITTEN in Matthew 10:36 that even JESUS warned of household enemies - family distance isn't always about my deficiency. Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery when he was RIGHTEOUS and favored - their rejection proved their hardness, not his lack. IT IS WRITTEN in John 1:11 'He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him' - even PERFECT JESUS was rejected by family. I am the BRANCH connected to the VINE; their pruning themselves off doesn't sever my connection. The BARAK blessing protected Joseph AWAY from family for 13 years - God's favor isn't measured by who's in the room.
Your Father sees that empty hospice room and grieves WITH you, not AT you. He's the Father who sat with rejected Joseph in the Egyptian prison - He's sitting with you NOW in this silence, not condemning you for failing to earn their presence.
