"My decreased productivity means I've lost my identity and purpose"
How it sounds in your head: You are what you do, and now you can't do what you did. Your entire identity was builder, provider, achiever. Without the output, who even are you? You're just taking up space now.
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
-- Ephesians 2:10World's lie that identity equals productivity, the exact opposite of Kingdom identity which is positional and relational, not functional.
Fifty-plus years of defining yourself by output, achievement, and what you produce. When that's stripped away, it feels like losing yourself, not just your work.
Exiled to Patmos island as an old man, couldn't travel or preach anymore, ministry apparently 'done.' In that limitation, he received the ENTIRE book of Revelation—his greatest work came when productivity was stripped away.
I REFUSE the lie that productivity equals identity. IT IS WRITTEN that I am HIS workmanship—my worth is in who MADE me, not what I make. I am a BRANCH connected to the VINE, and branches don't strive to produce—they ABIDE and fruit happens naturally. My identity is hidden with Christ in God, unchanging and secure regardless of output. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus—not even condemnation for decreased productivity. I am a SON, not a servant. Sons don't earn their seat at the table; they simply belong.
The Father didn't love you more when you were producing at peak capacity, and He doesn't love you less now. You're the son He runs toward with the robe—not because of what you've done, but because of whose you are.
