"My dad's absence means I'm not valuable or worth staying for."
How it sounds in your head: If my own father didn't choose me, why would anyone else? I feel myself looking for validation from men and hating that I do. Every guy I date, I'm waiting for him to leave because deep down, I don't believe I'm worth staying for.
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me."
-- Psalm 27:10Source: Abandonment wound that interpreted his leaving as evidence of your lack of worth rather than his brokenness.
His absence left a father-shaped hole, and you've watched friends with present dads receive something you didn't. You can trace insecurity in relationships directly back to that wound.
Jephthah was not only rejected by his father's legitimate family but driven away and told he was worthless because of his mother's identity. God saw this rejected, fatherless man and chose HIM to deliver Israel—his father's rejection didn't determine God's selection. Instant elevation from outcast to deliverer.
I REFUSE the lie that my father's absence defines my value or my future relationships. IT IS WRITTEN that when my father forsakes me, the Lord TAKES CARE of me. His leaving was about HIS brokenness, not my worth. IT IS WRITTEN that I am loved with an EVERLASTING love and drawn with lovingkindness (Jer 31:3). The Father who never leaves REJOICES over me with singing. I am covered by the BARAK blessing that makes me pursued, chosen, and celebrated—not because of my earthly father's presence, but because of my HEAVENLY Father's covenant. I am valuable, worth staying for, and completely secure RIGHT NOW.
The Father sees the wound your dad's absence created, and He's not asking you to pretend it doesn't hurt. He's running toward you with the ring, robe, and sandals, saying 'I have ALWAYS been here, I will NEVER leave, and you are MORE VALUABLE than you can imagine—not because you're healed, but because you're MINE.'
