"My bitterness toward those who hurt me disqualifies me from answered prayer."
How it sounds in your head: You know you're supposed to forgive, but you can't. You're still angry at the ones who wounded you. God won't answer your prayers until you forgive them completely, and you're just not there yet.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Old Covenant teaching from Matthew 6:15 applied after the cross, making forgiveness a WORK required for access instead of a FRUIT of grace received.
She's heard 'forgive or you won't be forgiven' her whole life. The ones who hurt her never apologized, never acknowledged the damage, and her inability to 'just let it go' feels like a blockage between her and God.
Peter denied Jesus THREE TIMES with cursing, then ran. Jesus didn't wait for Peter's perfected repentance and self-forgiveness. He met him on the beach, cooked him BREAKFAST, restored him with three 'Do you love Me' questions, and IMMEDIATELY commissioned him to 'Feed My sheep.'
I REFUSE the lie that my bitterness blocks prayer. IT IS WRITTEN that He has ALREADY forgiven me ALL trespasses—past tense, finished, before I forgave anyone. My Father doesn't withhold answers until I perform forgiveness perfectly. IT IS WRITTEN in Colossians 2:14 that all requirements were nailed to the cross. I am Peter who denied and got breakfast and commissioning IMMEDIATELY. The BARAK blessing covered Jacob even when he held grudges against Esau. I declare forgiveness is a FRUIT that grows from His grace in me, not a WORK that earns His response. My prayers are heard because I am IN CHRIST, and my bitterness is melting in His answered love.
Your Father isn't waiting on the other side of your forgiveness. He's sitting WITH you in your bitterness, healing the wound that made forgiveness feel impossible, and answering prayers while your heart is still processing the hurt—because His love is the medicine that makes forgiveness possible.
