"My anxiety keeps me awake and I can't control my anxious thoughts at night."
How it sounds in your head: As soon as the lights go out, all my worries flood in. I replay every embarrassing thing I said, every test coming up, every relationship problem. My brain won't stop and it's my fault.
"Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows... and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:4-5Mental health stigma teaching that anxiety is personal failure or lack of faith rather than something Jesus already carried.
The physical sensation of anxiety is real and overwhelming, especially when hormones amplify emotions at night. She's been told to 'just pray about it' but the thoughts persist.
Massive storm, boat filling with water, experienced fishermen certain they were dying—legitimate terror. Jesus spoke ONE WORD: 'Peace, be still.' IMMEDIATELY the wind ceased and there was great calm. Instant peace in the middle of real danger.
I REFUSE the lie that anxiety has authority over my sleep. IT IS WRITTEN that He has already BORNE my griefs and CARRIED my sorrows—past tense, finished work. Anxiety is not my master; Jesus is. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 4:7 that the peace of God which SURPASSES understanding will GUARD my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. I don't generate peace through perfect thoughts—His peace GUARDS me despite my thoughts. I am under the barak blessing—blessed in my mind, blessed in my emotions, blessed in my sleep.
Father doesn't wait for your thoughts to calm down before giving peace—He speaks peace INTO the storm of your mind right now. He didn't wait for the prodigal to stop smelling like pigs; He doesn't wait for your thoughts to stop racing.
